Jermann –
Friuli's idiosyncratic voice in white wine
Jermann is one of those wineries that you don't have to explain once you have drunk them. Silvio Jermann has shaped the family business in Friuli over decades into one of the most defining addresses in Northeast Italy – not through volume, but through consistency. On 170 hectares between Collio and Isonzo, wines are created that show what this area can do: depth, freshness, and a texture that only fully opens up with some time in the glass.
The Vintage Tunina – a cuvée of Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Ribolla Gialla, and other varieties – has been considered a reference for complex Friuli white wine since the 1980s. Alongside it are wines like Dreams, a single-varietal Chardonnay with Burgundian aging, or W... Dreams... (Were Dreams, now it is just wine), which works with spontaneous fermentation and long yeast aging. Each of these wines carries its own signature, but all share the same basic attitude: no effect for the sake of effect.
What distinguishes Jermann from many operations is the renunciation of fashionable shortcuts. The craft is in the foreground – the dialogue with soil, climate, and grape variety. Anyone looking for white wines with substance that still have something to say even after years will find a reliable address here.
