Read more Read less
The winery is the legacy of the Frédéric Champault winemaker family; the current owner is the son of Roland Champault and the grandson of Louis Champault, both of whom were winemakers. He settled in La Barbotaine in 1994 and initially worked with his parents on the winery. Later, he took over the vineyards of his father-in-law Lucien Dauny, a winemaker in Les Epinières, also in La Barbotaine.

About Domaine La Barbotaine – Frédéric Champault
Domaine La Barbotaine –
Sancerre from three generations of Champault
Frédéric Champault stands for Sancerre as it has grown: rooted in La Barbotaine, shaped by three generations of winemaking work. His grandfather Louis, his father Roland – both shaped the vineyards that Frédéric took over in 1994. Later, the sites of his father-in-law Lucien Dauny in Les Épinières were added, also located in La Barbotaine. The winery today bears the signature of all these people.
The vineyards are located in the heart of the Sancerre appellation on the Loire, where Caillotes and argilo-calcareous soil determine the terroir. Frédéric manages the vineyards with a view to preserving these soils.
The wines of Domaine La Barbotaine show what makes Sancerre: precise acidity, mineral depth, and a clear fruit that reflects the soil. Whether with goat cheese from the region or fish from the Loire – these wines do not need a grand entrance to convince.
