Domaine La Barbotaine – Frédéric Champault
Domaine La Barbotaine –
Sancerre from three generations of Champault
Frédéric Champault embodies Sancerre as it has evolved: rooted in La Barbotaine, shaped by three generations of winemakers. His grandfather Louis and his father Roland both cultivated the vineyards that Frédéric took over in 1994. Later, the vineyards of his father-in-law, Lucien Dauny, in Les Épinières, also located in La Barbotaine , were added. Today, the winery bears the mark of all these people.
The vineyards lie in the heart of the Sancerre appellation on the Loire, where limestone and flint define the terroir. Frédéric cultivates the vineyards with a focus on preserving these soils: in 2021, the winery was awarded the "High Environmental Value" (HVE) certificate – proof of a responsible approach to vineyard management and nature.
The wines of Domaine La Barbotaine showcase what makes Sancerre so special: precise acidity, mineral depth, and a clear fruitiness that reflects the terroir. Whether paired with local goat cheese or Loire fish, these wines don't need any grand gestures to impress.
