Château Sociando-Mallet lies north of Saint-Estèphe, on a plateau overlooking the Gironde estuary. Not a Grand Cru Classé, not listed in the famous 1855 classification—and yet, for decades, the estate has been among the most sought-after addresses in the entire Médoc . This is no accident, but the result of a clear vision.
Jean Gautreau bought the then-neglected Château in 1969 and systematically developed it according to his own vision. No pandering to trends, no pandering to critics: Sociando-Mallet became a wine that needs time and rewards it. The blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc displays dark fruit, firm tannins, and a structure that only fully opens up after years. Drinking windows of ten to twenty years are not uncommon here.
