Merlot dominates in the glass at 80 percent – soft, ripe, and velvety. Cabernet Franc adds fresh spice and structure. The vines are on average 40 years old: roots that reach deep and produce wines that tell more than just their origin. Hand-harvesting, concrete tanks, and a carefully considered use of barrels ensure that the character of the terroir remains paramount – not the winemaking technique.

Château Rozier is located in Saint Laurent des Combes, one of the quieter, yet characterful corners of Saint-Émilion . The Saby family cultivates 28 hectares here on clay-limestone soils – a subsoil that retains heat, regulates water, and provides the Merlot with precisely the conditions under which it can reach its full potential: soft, ripe, with a velvety texture that doesn't need to be forced.

The vines have been in the ground for an average of 40 years. Deep roots, low yields, concentrated fruit. Merlot makes up 80 percent of the blend, while Cabernet Franc contributes fresh spice and the necessary tension on the finish. Harvesting is done by hand, and aging takes place in concrete tanks and barrels – with the aim of letting the terroir speak for itself, not the cellar technology.

The result is a Saint-Émilion without any ostentatious display: no over-extraction, no dominance of wood, but a wine that comes into the glass with cherry, plum and a hint of graphite, and goes just as well with rack of lamb or aged Comté as it does with a quiet evening without a special occasion.
