Three red wines, three regions, one path through Italy: This three-bottle set takes you from Veneto through the Abruzzo to Puglia. All three wines are powerful, dark-fruited, and wood-aged. They differ significantly in origin and signature. The anthracite gift box is already included.

The start is made by the Bolla Amarone della Valpolicella Classico. Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella first dry on wooden racks and then mature for three years in Slavonian oak barrels. The grapes come from the historic core area around Negrar, Marano, and Fumane, where limestone and clay give the wine its structure. In the glass, you will find sour cherry, dried plum, and roasted aromas.
In the south, the Anniversario 62 Primitivo di Manduria Riserva from Feudi di San Marzano awaits. The grapes grow on vines that are partly over 60 years old, on iron-rich clay-limestone soils near San Marzano di San Giuseppe and Sava. 19 winemaker families vinify it together; the name commemorates the founding of the cooperative in 1962. It shows dark cherry and cocoa and has a long finish.
In between is the OPI Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Colline Teramane Riserva: deep dark, with black currant, blueberry, vanilla bean, and chocolate. The tannins are well integrated, the wood does not push itself to the fore. It is best to decant it about two hours beforehand in a bulbous carafe.
Pairs well with: braised ox cheek, game ragout with polenta, grilled lamb with rosemary, or aged Pecorino and Parmigiano Reggiano.
Three bottles in a set are a price advantage compared to buying them individually. The set is suitable as a gift for a birthday or Christmas, as a foundation for the cellar, or for an evening when you want to compare Italy's powerful reds directly.
