Warwick Estate First Lady Cabernet Sauvignon

The Warwick Estate First Lady Cabernet Sauvignon is a South African red wine from the heart of Stellenbosch – and it tells a story that is worth hearing.

Warwick Estate cultivates approximately 70 hectares of vineyards in Stellenbosch. Founder Norma Ratcliffe instilled in the estate a distinctive, classic European style through study trips to Bordeaux: intensely colored, concentrated, and designed for longevity. With The First Lady , her son Mike, who now manages the estate, creates a personal tribute to his mother.

The wine matures for 18 months in French oak barrels – this noticeably shapes it. In the glass, it displays a deep ruby red color. The bouquet opens with sweet blackberries, ripe cherries, tobacco, dark chocolate, and a delicate hint of cinnamon. On the palate, it offers a full, rounded body with velvety-smooth tannins, culminating in a long, elegant finish.

Warwick Estate

Where the First Lady of Cape Winemaking Made History: Warwick Estate is a winery located in Stellenbosch, South Africa. Warwick was founded around 1771 as a fruit farm. In 1964, Stan and Norma Ratcliff took over the farm and transformed it into a winery, primarily cultivating the typical Bordeaux grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Norma Ratcliff thus became the first female winemaker in the Cape of South Africa and, as such, quite famous. The "First Lady" range from Warwick Estate is a tribute to Norma Ratcliff.
