Turi Rosso DOC

The Turi Rosso shows what Sicily can do beyond the big names: not a heavy summer wine, but a lively red with spice, freshness, and real character.

Salvatore “Turi” Marino manages his winery in the south of Sicily according to an old viticultural tradition — hand-picking, spontaneous fermentation, minimal intervention in the cellar. The base is formed by Nero d'Avola (90%), supplemented by Pignatello and a small proportion of ancient grape varieties that are hardly found on the island anymore. It is precisely this proportion that makes the difference: it brings complexity that a varietal Nero d'Avola rarely achieves.

In the glass, the wine shows dark berry fruit — blackberry, plum — with distinct spice, herbs, and a freshness that points to ripe, but not overripe grapes. The tannins are balanced, the alcohol moderate: not a wine that leaves you exhausted after two glasses. That is exactly what makes it suitable for everyday use, even in warm weather.

It pairs best with pizza from the wood-fired oven, grilled sausages, or lamb chops with herbs. Serving temperature: 16–18 °C — those who drink it in summer can easily chill it briefly.
