Daniel Pi, born in Mendoza, is a luminary of Argentine viticulture and has been Chief Winemaker at Trapiche since 2002. Since taking office, he has changed many things and given the wines his personal style. In doing so, he always follows the principle of »wealth through diversity«.
Because he is convinced that there is not just one specific place or a certain altitude where every grape variety achieves its most extraordinary expression, but many. The key lies in knowing which areas yield the best grapes for the respective wine. To live up to his credo, Daniel Pi attaches the greatest importance to close cooperation with the winegrowers.
The Trapiche Oak Cask Malbec appears dark red with violet reflections. It combines fruity aromas of blackberries and plums, elegantly integrated vanilla and smoke notes into a velvety texture with a long finish.

How does the Trapiche Oak Cask Malbec taste?
Dark-fruited and velvety: blackberry and plum in the foreground, plus vanilla and a light smoky tone. The texture is soft, the finish long — an accessible Malbec with melt.
Is the wine dry?
Yes, the Oak Cask Malbec is vinified dry. The fruit fullness can seem sweet, but it comes without residual sugar — typical for Mendoza Malbec in this style.
What does the wine pair best with?
It is a classic companion to grilled lamb or beef, but works just as well with braised dishes, veal, or hearty tapas. Also a harmonious choice for Creole cuisine.
At what temperature should I serve it?
Best at 16–18 °C — i.e., slightly cooler than room temperature. This is how fruit and structure come into their own most clearly, without the alcohol dominating.
How long can I store the wine?
The Oak Cask Malbec is designed for accessible drinking pleasure, not a wine for long-term storage. Best to drink within the next two to three years — the fruit is then at its peak.
For what occasion is the wine suitable?
Well suited for barbecue evenings, wine tastings with an entry-level character, or as an uncomplicated red wine for cooking and eating during the week. Not an occasion wine, but a reliable everyday companion.
The Winery
Trapiche is an Argentine winery located in the west of the country, near the city of Mendoza. It was founded in 1883 by Tiburcio Benegas and is today owned by the Grupo Peñaflor. The winery has a vineyard area of over 1200 hectares, which is distributed over 13 different locations and offers soils of sandy loam.
For the production of the wines at Trapiche, grape varieties such as Malbec, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, or Sauvignon Blanc are grown. The finished wines are exported to more than 40 countries worldwide.
