Tempranillo pure from the heart of the Ribera del Duero — the Pesquera Crianza from Alejandro Fernández is one of the wines that helped shape the reputation of this region.
Alejandro Fernández began in the 1970s in Pesquera de Duero with the belief that Tempranillo alone — without blending — is capable of world-class red wine. The estate has remained true to this conviction to this day. The vines stand on the high plateau of Castile at over 750 meters, with a continental climate: hot summers, cold nights, which brings concentration and acidity structure at the same time. The comparison with Château Pétrus, which Robert Parker once drew, made the Pesquera internationally famous.
After 18 months of aging in American oak and another six months in the bottle, the intense ruby red with a bluish shimmer appears in the glass. On the nose, blackberry, black cherry, and vanilla, underscored by a hint of toasted oak and leather. On the palate, medium to strong tannins, well-integrated sweetness, and a long, spicy finish with coffee echoes.
Serving temperature 16–18 °C. Pairs with: Leg of lamb with herbs, Ibérico secreto from the grill, or aged Manchego.

How does the Pesquera Crianza 2022 taste?
Dry Tempranillo with aromas of blackberry, black cherry, and vanilla — plus a hint of toasted oak and leather. On the palate, medium to powerful tannins, well-integrated sweetness, and a long, spicy finish with coffee echoes.
What does the Pesquera Crianza pair best with?
Classically with leg of lamb with herbs or Ibérico secreto from the grill. It also cuts a fine figure with braised veal, game, or aged Manchego — dishes that bring substance and spice.
At what temperature should I serve the wine?
Best at 16–18 °C. If it is served too warm, the alcohol (14% ABV) comes to the fore and covers the fruit. A short time in the fridge before opening does not hurt.
Is the Pesquera Crianza 2022 already ready to drink or should I store it further?
It is drinkable now — the drinking window extends until approx. 2027. Those who like it a bit rounder can let it lie for another one to two years. Waiting longer than 2027 is hardly worth it with this vintage.
How do I best store the wine?
Lying down, dark, and at a constant 12–15 °C — i.e., not a kitchen cupboard next to the stove. Strong temperature fluctuations and direct sunlight are the greatest enemies of a corked wine.
Is the Pesquera Crianza a single-varietal wine?
Yes, 100% Tempranillo — no blend. That was the conviction of Alejandro Fernández from the beginning: that Tempranillo alone is enough to make a serious Rioja-Duero red wine. The vines stand at over 750 meters altitude in Castile.
The Bodega
Alejandro Fernández – pioneer spirit from the Ribera del Duero. While others were clearing vines for sugar beets in the 70s, he was planting. The rise from farm worker to legendary winemaker: at 42, he took out a loan, bought a vineyard and old winery equipment – and founded Tinto Pesquera.
His motto: uncompromising quality, lots of extract, Tempranillo. The region was unknown at the time – he made it famous.
To this day, down-to-earth, restless, master of his craft. He founded three more wineries for his daughters. Alejandro Fernández – a name, a legend.
