Tenuta San Guido Guidalberto

Guidalberto is the second wine of Tenuta San Guido — the winery that co-founded the Super Tuscan movement with Sassicaia. It was created from the desire to integrate Merlot into the estate's Bolgheri philosophy while allowing for a stricter selection of grapes for the big brother.

The winery is located in the coastal strip of the Maremma, south of Livorno, on terrain that offers ideal conditions for Cabernet and Merlot due to its proximity to the sea and well-drained soils. Nicolò Incisa della Rocchetta leads the estate in the tradition of his father Mario, who began planting Bordeaux-origin grape varieties in Tuscany in the 1940s — a provocation back then, a benchmark today.

In the glass, Guidalberto glows in deep ruby red with dark reflections. The bouquet opens with blackberry, herbs, and a hint of mint. On the palate, it shows juiciness and weight; the tannins are dense but cleanly integrated — no scratching, no sharpness. Twelve months of aging in French and American oak barrels leave a subtle spice on the finish.

Serving temperature 16–18 °C. Pairs with Bistecca alla Fiorentina, braised lamb shoulder, or aged Pecorino Toscano.
