Chenin Blanc treads

Chenin Blanc from Stellenbosch rarely has the reputation it deserves — this example from Stellenrust is a reminder of why the grape variety has been considered a secret tip among connoisseurs in South Africa for decades.

Stellenrust winery is located in the Bottelary Hills region of Stellenbosch, one of the best areas for old Chenin Blanc vines in South Africa. The region is known for its granite and sandstone soils, which give the white wines structure and a natural freshness.

In the glass, it displays a clear, pale yellow color. On the nose, the bouquet opens with ripe peach and honeydew melon, accompanied by a delicate citrus note—lime zest and bergamot—that lends the wine vibrancy. On the palate, a spicy, herbal note follows, balancing the fruit and leaving a dry, fresh finish. Not heavy, but certainly substantial.

Serving suggestion: Served between 10 and 12 °C, it pairs well with pan-fried cod with caper butter, grilled chicken with lemon marinade, or a mild goat cheese. It also makes a great aperitif with some smoked salmon. Drink now until 2026.
