Statti Cauro Calabria IGT

Calabria rarely makes headlines in the wine world — but that's precisely what makes wines like Cauro so interesting. Statti, one of the region's oldest wineries, cultivates it on the family estate in the plain of Lamezia Terme, where the Calabrian hinterland meets the Tyrrhenian Sea.

The cuvée matures for 12 months in barriques and displays a deep ruby red color with violet reflections in the glass. The nose offers aromas of blackberry, dark cherry, and plum, underpinned by a balsamic note reminiscent of eucalyptus and maquis herbs. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with soft tannins, a hint of vanilla from the oak aging, and a long, slightly spicy finish.

Serving suggestion: Served at 16–18 °C, Cauro pairs well with grilled lamb rump, pasta al ragù, or a spicy Calabrian Pecorino. Drinking window: now until 2027.

State

Calabria – “Enotria Tellus,” land of wine. Wine has been cultivated here for millennia, and over two thousand years ago the Greeks brought indigenous grape varieties with them. Brothers Antonio and Alberto Statti have dedicated themselves to reviving this tradition. Their goal: to offer a modern interpretation of Calabria and to raise international awareness of the importance of these ancient grape varieties. A challenge, as Calabrian wines are virtually unknown today. The Stattis want to restore the excellent reputation they enjoyed in antiquity. A mission with a distinct flavor.
