Silvaner Rothlauf GG
The Silvaner Rothlauf GG is what Franconia is known for: earthy, dry, with a depth that you don't immediately expect — but understand immediately.
Silvaner is the classic Franconian grape variety, and the Grosses Gewächs (GG) designation represents the highest quality level of the VDP: hand-harvested, rigorously selected, and vinified with the aim of reflecting the vineyard site and vintage. The name Rothlauf refers to a single vineyard site—typically with deep limestone or Keuper soil profiles that give Silvaner its characteristic minerality.
In the glass, it displays herbal spice—parsley, white pepper, a hint of quince—combined with a clear citrus line of lemon balm and grapefruit. A subtle honey undertone suggests ripe grapes without making the wine heavy. On the palate, there is a creamy texture with lively, well-integrated acidity: no harshness, but enough tension for a long, saline finish.
Serving temperature: 12–14 °C . Drinkable now, potential until 2029.
Goes well with: asparagus with hollandaise sauce, pike-perch fillet on leek vegetables, goat cheese or a classic Franconian Schäuferla.
