Secco Apple & Pear
Glina's Apple & Pear Secco comes from a rather unexpected source: The Berlin-based Glina distillery is primarily known for its whisky, but with this fruit-based Secco, it demonstrates that artisanal production isn't limited to grain. The result is a light, sparkling fruit wine made without grapes – honest and uncomplicated.
The nose is dominated by ripe apple fruit – more reminiscent of Elstar or Boskoop than industrial concentrate. This is complemented by a soft, creamy pear note, which gives the Secco a pleasant roundness. On the palate, it is slightly sweet without being cloying: the fine carbonation provides freshness and keeps the fruit vibrant. The finish is short, clean, and accompanied by a delicate stone fruit aftertaste – not a long finish, but just right for a Secco of this type.
By omitting grapes, it is particularly suitable for guests who avoid grapes or simply fancy something different. The reduced complexity is not a drawback, but rather the intention: easy to drink, easy to enjoy.
Serving suggestion: Serve well chilled at 6–8 °C. Pairs well with apple pie, fruit tarts, light summer snacks with cream cheese, or as a simple aperitif before a relaxed dinner. Also a good choice for brunch gatherings or garden parties where a classic sparkling wine would be too heavy.
