Salento IGT Artetica

A cuvée of 70% Primitivo and 30% Negroamaro, grown on old vines in Salento — the southernmost tip of Apulia, where limestone soils and intense sun produce concentrated, characterful wines. Schola Sarmenti has made a name for itself in this region as a guardian of old vine stocks; the vines for the Artetica are around 55 years old and yield small quantities of intensely aromatic fruit.

The glass shows a deep ruby red. On the nose, ripe black cherry and forest fruits, complemented by dark cocoa and vanilla — a profile that stems from the nine-month aging process in large oak barrels. Subsequently, the wine matured for another eight months in the bottle, which gives it a round, closed structure. The tannins are soft and well-integrated, the body dense, the finish long and spicy.

Pairs with braised lamb, game ragù over wide pasta, or a strong Pecorino from Apulia. Serving temperature: 16–18 °C.
