Saffron Gin 0.7L

A gin whose color comes from the spice rack: saffron threads provide the hue. Its production follows an old colonial-era recipe; the majority of the saffron is grown in the Orient.

Gabriel Boudier is based in Dijon, Burgundy, and is best known for its Crème de Cassis. For the Saffron Gin, the house relies on eight botanicals: juniper, saffron, iris, orange and lemon peel, angelica root, coriander, and fennel. Saffron is considered the most expensive spice in the world, but here it is just one component in the interplay.

On the nose, citrus and juniper are at the forefront. On the palate, caramel, juniper, citrus, and saffron emerge.

Recommendation: As a Gin Tonic with plenty of ice and a strip of orange peel, which picks up the citrus note and emphasizes the saffron. The spice is also easy to appreciate neat on ice.
