Rum Malecon Rare Proof 17 J.
Malecon Rare Proof 17 is a Panamanian rum that demonstrates what slow maturation in a special climate can achieve: 17 years in oak barrels, stored in the caves around Panama, where constant temperatures and humidity promote even development.
The bottling process uses the Solera method — several vintages are blended gradually, giving the rum remarkable homogeneity and depth. This method, known from sherry production, imparts a more complex layering to the distillate than a single vintage could provide.
On the nose, vanilla is clearly prominent, supported by subtle oak aromas. The palate reveals a creamy, smooth texture—vanilla remains dominant but is accompanied by a delicate wood note, a hint of spice, and ripe fruit. The finish is long and silky, without any harshness.
The complexity of the flavor is best enjoyed neat at room temperature—perhaps with a tiny drop of water to open up the vanilla notes. Those who prefer mixing it will find a classic Old Fashioned a good choice.
