Rosso di Montalcino

Rosso di Montalcino
The Rosso di Montalcino from Le Macioche is the accessible entry into one of Montalcino's great Sangiovese addresses — fruitier than the Brunello, but with the same foundation of limestone-clay soils and high altitude.
Le Macioche is located in the northwestern part of Montalcino at about 400 meters. The winery works with old Sangiovese Grosso clones and focuses on gentle vinification that preserves the site's natural acid structure. The Rosso ages for a shorter time than the Brunello and thus comes into its own sooner — without appearing flat.
In the glass, it shows fresh sour cherry and red currant, plus a hint of dried herbs and a touch of iron-rich earth in the background. The tannins are present but not harsh — medium body, lively acidity, medium-long finish with a light spice.
Ready to drink now. Serving temperature 16–17 °C. Pairs with Bistecca alla Fiorentina, pasta al ragù, Pecorino Toscano, or grilled vegetables with rosemary oil.
