Ried Rosenberg QW Carnuntum

The Ried Rosenberg from Carnuntum is a dense, tight-knit red wine that relies more on structure and depth than on superficial fullness. It comes from one of the well-known sites of the Gerhard Markowitsch winery, which is one of the defining names of the region in Göttlesbrunn east of Vienna.

The cuvée consists of 55% Zweigelt, 30% Merlot, and 15% Blaufränkisch. The vines root in the Rosenberg on loam, lime, sand, and Danube gravel. This mixture gives the wine mineral pull and depth. In the nose, dark berries and cassis appear, along with juniper and fine cloves. On the palate, it appears compact, the tannins are elegant, and the finish is long and powerful. The wine is vinified dry.

It is best enjoyed at 16 to 18 °C. A decanter helps it to open up. It goes well with braised beef, saddle of venison with juniper jus, or strong hard cheese. An evening with root vegetables from the oven and rosemary potatoes also finds a good companion in it.
