"R" de Rieussec
The “R” de Rieussec is the dry white wine of the famous Sauternes château — and shows what happens when a sweet wine specialist transfers all their aromatic knowledge into a dry style.
Château Rieussec is one of the few Premier Cru Supérieur estates in Sauternes and has been owned by the Rothschild group since 1984. The “R” is made from the same sites as the great sweet wine — primarily Sémillon, supplemented by Sauvignon Blanc — but is vinified dry and aged in barriques.
In the glass, it shows white peach and passion fruit, underpinned by lemon and grapefruit. The use of barriques brings a spicy, slightly creamy depth without masking the freshness. On the palate, the wine is lively, with a clear acidity structure and a long, full finish.
Serving recommendation: Best served at 12–13 °C — if too cold, it loses its aromatic fullness. Pairs well with grilled sea bass, lobster bisque, or a ripe goat cheese.

In the 18th century, the estate still belonged to the Carmelite monks. Today, Château Rieussec is a famous winery in Sauternes and was designated a Premier Grand Cru Classé in 1855.
The Rothschild (Lafite) family has managed the estate since 1984. The 85 hectares of vineyards lie next to Château d'Yquem. Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc grapes grow here on gravelly soils.
The secret lies in noble rot. It develops during damp autumn mornings and transforms the grapes into golden treasures. The result: a sweet wine with aromas of citrus and brioche.
