Puro Corte d'Oro

Deep dark red with a violet shimmer — the Puro Corte d'Oro shows already in the glass where it comes from: from the best plots of Dieter Meier's Argentine winery Ojo de Agua in Mendoza.

The Swiss artist and entrepreneur Dieter Meier has been operating the winery since the early 2000s in the province of Mendoza. The name d'Oro — the gold piece — stands for the top selection of the vineyards: a cuvée of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, and Petit Verdot, where each grape variety contributes its strengths.

On the nose, ripe plum and dark cherry, plus subtle vanilla and a hint of oak from the barrel aging. On the palate, the cuvée is compact: velvety tannins, medium length, a warm finish with light spice. Not an edgy youngster, but a balanced red wine with substance.

Puro Dieter Meier

Those of us who are older might still remember the Swiss pop duo Yello with singer Dieter Meier. But music is just one passion of this multifaceted artist and successful businessman. Another great passion is organic farming. For years, Meier has been a committed organic farmer in Argentina: he raises cattle in the Pampa Humeda and produces wine in Agrelo Alto. Both are certified organic.
