Puligny Montrachet Pucelles AC Premier Cru 0.75L
One of the most coveted white wines of Burgundy: The Puligny-Montrachet Pucelles Premier Cru from Maison Joseph Drouhin shows why this site is one of the great addresses of the Côte de Beaune. The Pucelles lies immediately below the Montrachet and produces Chardonnay with a precision that is immediately noticeable in the glass.
Maison Joseph Drouhin has been based in Beaune since 1880 and is one of the most renowned négociant-éleveurs in Burgundy. The collaboration with selected winemakers and their own Domaine vineyards allow for wines that are stylistically clearly aimed at finesse and terroir expression — no emphasis on wood or extraction, but on balance.
The wine shows a luminous light gold in the glass. On the nose, linden blossoms, lemon zest, a hint of almond, and fine pastry. Dense and lively at the same time on the palate: a taut acidity structure carries the flesh of white peach and pear, the finish is long, mineral, with a slight saltiness that is typical for the Pucelles.
Serving temperature 11–13 °C. Goes well with scallops with butter sauce, lobster, turbot, or a mature Comté — anywhere a white wine with backbone and depth is required.
