Protos Crianza
Tempranillo from the heart of the Ribera del Duero — mature, structured, approachable. The Protos Crianza demonstrates why this region is among the most important red wine regions in Spain.
Bodegas Protos is one of the founding wineries of the Denomination of Origin Ribera del Duero, established in 1927 in Peñafiel—right below the castle of the same name. The winery played a key role in officially establishing the DO in 1982. Today, Protos cultivates its own vineyards on the high plateau at an altitude of around 800 meters, where cold nights and hot days allow the grapes to ripen slowly and develop their full aroma.
The Crianza matures for 14 months in a combination of American and French oak. American barrels impart vanilla and coconut notes, while the French contribute spice and a finer wood structure. In the glass: a deep ruby red with violet reflections. The nose reveals ripe blackberry and plum, underpinned by roasted aromas, a hint of tobacco, and sweet wood. On the palate, it is full-bodied, with soft, well-integrated tannins and a lingering fruity finish.
Serving temperature 16–18 °C. Pairs well with leg of lamb with herbs, grilled beef steak, or Manchego cheese. Also a simple accompaniment to a good midweek dinner.
