Planteray Original Dark Rum 40% vol.

A classic dark rum that shows what happens when Caribbean raw materials meet cognac-style maturation: fruity and spicy, with real depth.

Planteray (formerly Plantation) is the rum project of Maison Ferrand , part of the Château de Bonbonnet cognac house. The concept: Rums from various origins are brought to France and then aged in small Ferrand casks made of French oak—a process known as double aging. The Original Dark blend combines rums from Barbados (1–3 years old) with high-ester rums from Jamaica (10–15 years old). The final blend then matures for a further 3–6 months in the cool cellars of the Château.

On the nose, it opens with baked cherries, prunes, and a distinct hint of black pepper and cloves. With a little aeration, cinnamon, black tea, and a subtle oak note emerge. Medium-bodied on the palate, with a spicy line contributed by the Jamaican influence—the high-ester rums bring a roughness and depth that complements the milder Barbadian rums.

Enjoy it neat at room temperature, over a large scoop of ice, or as the base for a Dark & Stormy or Mai Tai . At 40% ABV, it's suitable and accessible for everyday drinking.

Maison Ferrand

Maison Ferrand is no ordinary spirits manufacturer. Since 1989, cognacs, rums, and gins have been created here that tell a story – of places, people, and a deep connection to the craft. Behind every drop is genuine conviction: tradition meets curiosity, terroir meets innovation.

Whether the elegant Ferrand Cognac from the heart of France, the lively Citadelle Gin from the south of the country, or the Caribbean-influenced Planteray Rum from the Barbados coast – every brand has its own soul.

And you can taste it. As an independent family business, Maison Ferrand thinks in generations, not quarters. Social responsibility is not a marketing promise, but lived everyday life – from cultivation to the bottle.
