Pintia Toro 0.375L

Pintia from the D.O. Toro brings dark fruit, spice, and freshness into a compact format. The 0.375-l half-bottle is enough for two glasses in the evening and is an uncomplicated way to get to know the house's style.

Bodegas Pintia is located in Toro in Castile and belongs to the Vega Sicilia house. The grapes come from Tinta de Toro, the local variant of the Tempranillo vine. On the dry, sun-drenched plateau along the Duero, it forms thick-skinned, color-intensive berries. This explains the power for which Toro is known. The large temperature differences between day and night at this altitude keep the acidity lively.

The 2021 vintage appears deep and dark in the glass. On the nose, dark berries like blackberry are in the foreground, accompanied by fine spice. On the palate, it feels juicy and lively, the tannins are grippy but finely drawn, and the fresh fruit carries through to the finish.

Serve it at 16 to 18 °C. It pairs well with braised lamb, entrecôte from the grill, chorizo, or mature Manchego. As a half-bottle, it is just right for an evening for two.

The Bodega

Bodegas Pintia

Pablo Álvarez, son of the owner of Vega Sicilia, was fascinated by the unique terroir of Toro. In 1997, he founded the family's second winery: Bodegas Pintia . The goal was a modern, elegant wine from the rugged landscape along the Duero River.

The estate boasts 96 hectares of old vines of the local Tinta de Toro variety, a robust relative of Tempranillo. The soils are poor, sandy, and calcareous, and the climate is extreme, with hot summers and cold winters.

The result is a single, varietal red wine of great density and power, yet precise and elegant. Since its first vintage in 2001, Pintia has enjoyed cult status among lovers of Spanish wines.
