Bodegas Pintia

Pablo Álvarez, son of the owner of Vega Sicilia, was fascinated by the unique terroir of Toro. In 1997, he founded the family's second winery: Bodegas Pintia . The goal was a modern, elegant wine from the rugged landscape along the Duero River.

The estate boasts 96 hectares of old vines of the local Tinta de Toro variety, a robust relative of Tempranillo. The soils are poor, sandy, and calcareous, and the climate is extreme, with hot summers and cold winters.

The result is a single, varietal red wine of great density and power, yet precise and elegant. Since its first vintage in 2001, Pintia has enjoyed cult status among lovers of Spanish wines.

Bodegas Pintia was founded in 1997 on Pablo Álvarez's conviction that the terroir of Toro had more to offer than was then known. As the son of the Vega Sicilia owner, he knew the standards for great Spanish red wine—and sought them in a different landscape: barren sandy soils over limestone, extreme temperature fluctuations between summer and winter, and old vines struggling through drought and heat.

On 96 hectares, only Tinta de Toro grows, a robust relative of Tempranillo that has adapted to the harsh conditions of this region over centuries. The vines are old, the yields low, the grapes concentrated. From this comes a single red wine per vintage—pure varietal, without blending, without compromise.

Since its first vintage in 2001, Pintia has been considered one of the most consistent producers in the DO Toro: dense fruit, firm structure, and a precision that is not always found in this region.
