Founded in 1998 in Valdefinjas, Castile and León, the winery pays homage to the fearless warriors of Numancia who resisted the Roman army for twenty years in 134 BC – choosing to sacrifice their lives rather than surrender. This resilience is reflected in the wines. Vineyards planted centuries ago by pioneer families survived phylloxera and extreme weather conditions. Bodega Numanthia was founded in 1998 in Valdefinjas – a region steeped in history long before modern winemaking. The name refers to the Iberian city of Numancia, whose inhabitants withstood a Roman siege for twenty years in 134 BC. This resilience is not a marketing ploy, but a core principle: the winery's vineyards were planted by pioneering families, survived the phylloxera plague, and continue to defy the extreme temperature fluctuations of the Castilian plateau.

The soils around Toro are sandy and poor – precisely what forces the vines to root deeply and produce concentrated fruit. Many of the vineyards are over a hundred years old, ungrafted, and worked by hand. This results in wines with a density and structure typical of the region: dark fruit, firm tannins, a long finish – and an aging potential that lasts for decades.

As early as the 15th century, Toro wines traveled as provisions on Christopher Columbus's ships to America – robust enough for long voyages, distinctive enough not to be forgotten. Numanthia builds on this heritage without romanticizing it: the wines speak for themselves.
