Pinot Noir Les Princes Abbés AC Alsace

A Pinot Noir from Alsace that puts fruit and freshness in the foreground: lean in body, but with substance on the palate. In the glass, it appears ruby red with violet reflections.

The Les Princes Abbés comes from Domaines Schlumberger, one of the most famous wineries in Alsace, and carries the AC Alsace appellation. The Pinot Noir grape variety is the only red wine variety in the region here, and the style is correspondingly independent: dry, clear, and without heaviness.

In the nose, small red fruits like currant and cherry meet blackberry, accompanied by floral notes of peony. On the palate, the wine appears lively and juicy; the tannins are ripe and finely integrated. The finish remains elegant and draws out pleasantly in length.

Recommendation: Serve it at 14 to 16 °C. It goes well with roasts, game, and grilled vegetables, as well as duck breast or a ripe soft cheese.

The Domaine

Domaines Schlumberger

Domaines Schlumberger from Guebwiller in the southern Alsace has been family-owned since 1810 and is one of the most important wineries in France. Today, the seventh generation runs the house: Séverine and Thomas Schlumberger manage around 140 hectares of vineyards – the largest contiguous AOC winery in Alsace, 70 hectares of which are in four Grand Cru sites.

On steep slopes with a gradient of up to 50 percent, maintained with draft horses and over 50 kilometers of stone retaining walls, wines with great depth are created. Schlumberger presses only its own grapes and deliberately produces only half of what the law would allow.
