Petra IGT Tuscany 0.75L

The Petra is the flagship of the winery of the same name on the Tuscan coast — a cuvée of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc that shows what the Maremma knows how to do with international grape varieties.

The Petra winery is located in the municipality of Suvereto, one of the up-and-coming wine-growing regions of Tuscany. The soils of clay, sand, and limestone as well as the Mediterranean climate with long, warm summers and cool nights give the grapes structure and aromatic density. The wine bears the name of the house — it is not an entry-level product, but an expression of the overall philosophy.

In the glass, a dark color with violet reflections appears. The nose opens with black currant, blackberry, and cedar wood, plus a hint of dried herbs. On the palate, the wine appears full-bodied with dense, well-integrated tannins and a fresh acidity line that gives the body support. The finish is long, spicy, with an aftertaste of dark berries and mild tobacco.

You should best drink it at 16–18 °C with braised lamb shoulder, Bistecca alla Fiorentina, or mature Pecorino. Anyone who decants it gives the aromas room to unfold completely.
