MAN Vintners Pinotage

Pinotage is polarizing — this one does so in a pleasant way. MAN Vintners demonstrates with this wine what the South African flagship rebel variety is capable of when it isn't pushed beyond its limits.

MAN Vintners is a joint venture of three winegrowers from the Bottelary Hills region of Stellenbosch. The name stands for Mehrens, Albertyn, and Naudé —three farming families who have combined their vineyards to produce approachable, well-made wines. The focus is on fruit and easy drinking without heaviness.

In the glass, it displays a deep, dark ruby red. The nose offers blackberry, plum, and a hint of smoked herbs—typical of Pinotage, but without the rustic, rubbery notes that sometimes accompany the variety. On the palate, velvety tannins, moderate acidity, and a finish of mild vanilla and dark chocolate. The 13% Shiraz content lends the wine roundness and a touch of pepperiness in the finish. 30% of the wine matured for twelve months in American and French oak barrels (25% new)—this explains the subtle oak notes, without dominating the wine.

Serving temperature 16–18 °C. Pairs well with grilled lamb chops, beef burgers with cheddar, or a hearty bean stew. Drink now until 2027.

Man Vintners focuses on quality wines that offer outstanding value for money and come in attractive packaging. José Condé and the brothers Tyrrell and Philip Myburgh began producing wine in 2001. Their best-selling wines are Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as the Shiraz and Pinotage varieties, which are highly regarded in Stellenbosch.
