Malterdingen Old Vines Chardonnay QW Baden 0.75L

Chardonnay on shell limestone — that is the specialty of Bernhard Huber's Alte-Reben-Cuvée from Malterdingen, one of the style-defining names in German white wine. The vines stand in the Breisgau at the foot of the Kaiserstuhl, where the shell limestone soil gives the Chardonnay a mineral basic tension that clearly distinguishes it from Burgundian models.

In the glass, it shows ripe yellow pear, citrus zest, and a hint of white flowers, underscored by a fine creaminess that goes back to the winery's many years of experience with this grape variety. The acidity structure is lively but never edgy — it keeps the wine taut without hardening it. The finish is long, salty, and characterized by a subtle spice.

On the table, it cuts a fine figure with veal medallions with morel sauce, fried zander, or a ripe Comté. Drinking temperature: 11–13 °C.
