Kyrö Malt Whisky

Kyrö Malt Whisky is a Finnish rye whisky – a rarity that demonstrates what happens when a Nordic grain enters the whisky bottle. The Kyrö Distillery in Isokyrö, Finland, works exclusively with locally grown rye, developing a distinctive style that clearly differentiates it from Scottish or American whiskies.

The malt matures in ex-bourbon barrels and new oak casks, which lends the rye character a warm, woody support without overpowering it. The nose reveals vanilla, a hint of caramel, and fresh grain spice – typical of rye whisky, which isn't as oily and smooth as a corn bourbon, but rather drier and more angular. On the palate, it offers a medium body with a touch of sweetness, some dried fruit, and a long, spicy finish with a hint of pepper.

It displays its greatest complexity neat at room temperature – those wishing to tame the rye character somewhat can add a single ice cube. It also makes a good base for an Old Fashioned or Rye Sour .
