Wine has been grown in South Africa since 1659. In a virtually ideal viticultural climate, wines thrive on the sunny slopes and in the fertile valleys of the Cape, which are vinified and aged in the tradition of European cellar masters and exported all over the world by the KWV. For over 50 years, KWV Roodeberg, the legendary red wine from the cellars of the most famous winery at the Cape, has been the flagship of South Africa. The grapes from preferred sites of the Western Cape are fermented separately by grape variety and aged in wooden barrels before being blended into this cuvée. Wine lovers on all continents associate the perfectly harmonious taste and the noble character of the barrel-aged drop as the epitome of the finest wine quality. South Africa's wine guide John Platter sees in KWV Roodeberg nothing less than "The institution of Cape viticulture"!

Full-bodied and fruit-forward, with aromas of red forest berries, chocolate, and vanilla. Aged for 14–16 months in French oak, it brings a soft, round structure — not an edgy wine, but a harmonious red wine with depth.
Is the Roodeberg dry?
Yes, it is produced dry. The fruit notes of forest berries and vanilla may appear sweet, but they come from the oak aging and the ripe fruit — not from residual sugar.
What does the KWV Roodeberg pair best with?
With hearty meat: game, lamb, goose, or steak. It also cuts a fine figure with braised and grilled dishes. For those who prefer cheese: Roquefort or Parmesan pair well with the structure of the wine.
At what temperature should I serve it?
Ideally at 16–18 °C. Served too warm, it loses freshness and structure; too cold, the fruit and wood notes do not come to the fore.
How do I store the Roodeberg?
Store cool, dark, and lying down — ideally between 12 and 15 °C, protected from light and strong temperature fluctuations. An opened bottle keeps well-sealed for another two to three days.
The Winery
KWV (Kooperative Wijnbouwers Vereiniging) is a South African corporate group founded in 1918 and based in the Paarl region. The current CEO is Boyce Lloyd. Through close cooperation with the majority of all South African wineries, KWV partially regulated and controlled the South African wine market.
Among the closest partners are the wineries KWV The Mentors, Cathedral Cellars, Roodeberg, Laborie, Pearl Bay, Cafê Culture, Golen Kaan, and African Passion. The wines produced are made from grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinotage, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, or Shiraz.
