Kirchenstück GG Spätburgunder

The Kirchenstück in Hohen-Sülzen is one of the oldest documented sites in the Wonnegau – mentioned even before the Thirty Years' War under the name Griebelsteyn, which means something like friable stone. It is hard to describe the calcareous, Pliocene soils more aptly: the soft limestone rocks literally crumble between the fingers.

The basin site of Hohen-Sülzen brings higher temperatures during the day than in the surrounding districts of Mölsheim or Flörsheim – but at night, the Eisbach, which rises in the Donnersberg massif, ensures distinct thermals. This temperature fluctuation is the reason why the Pinot Noir retains its freshness despite fully ripe grapes: taut acidity, elegance, length.

In the glass, the Kirchenstück GG shows dark cherry, violets, and a mineral, chalky undertone that speaks directly from the limestone soil. The body is dense without appearing heavy – typical of Spanier's signature in the Wonnegau. Aging potential easily until 2035+.

Pairs well with wild duck, braised rack of lamb with herbs, or mature Époisses.
