Kaapzicht Rooiland Pinotage

Pinotage that polarizes — here it shows what it can do when the soil and craftsmanship are right. The Rooiland comes from the granite soil of the Bottelary Bowl, one of the hottest terroirs in the Stellenbosch area, and carries this origin directly into the glass.

Kaapzicht Estate has been managing the Bottelary Hills in family hands for decades. The northern orientation of the Rooiland plots ensures maximum sunlight and small, concentrated berries — visible in the density and depth of the wine. John Platter's awarded it 4.5 stars, Meininger's Weinwelt 89 points.

In the glass, deep ruby red. The nose opens with raspberry and dark plum, plus a clear coffee tone and a hint of clove with nutmeg. On the palate, full-bodied, soft tannins, the red fruit carries through to the long finish — there, a fine café latte note joins in, which is typical for well-matured Pinotage.

Drinking temperature 16–18 °C. Pairs well with grilled lamb chop with rosemary, beef potjie, or strong hard cheese like aged cheddar.

Kaapzicht Estate

Kaapzicht was first mentioned in 1712 as "Friesland" and came into the possession of the Steytler family in 1946. The name was chosen because of the magnificent view from the slopes of the vineyards over Cape Town and Table Mountain.

Kaapzicht Estate is a typical family business in which all family members work together: A few years ago, Danie Steytler followed in his father Daan's footsteps as a passionate, hardworking, and creative winemaker. His mother Yngvild is responsible for the global export markets.

The wines grown and bottled on the estate have been offered under the Kaapzicht label since 1984.
