Kaapzicht Estate Steytler Pinotage

The Steytler Pinotage from Kaapzicht Estate shows what South Africa's signature grape variety is capable of when old vines and careful barrel aging come together. Dense cherry red in the glass, a powerful but not clumsy red wine for those who appreciate depth and spice.

Kaapzicht is located at the foot of the Bottelary Hills in Stellenbosch, owned by the Steytler family since 1946. The Steytler Pinotage is the estate's flagship cuvée, named after the family name and produced from the winery's oldest Pinotage vines. Aging in French oak gives the wine structure and depth without masking the fruit.

On the nose, blackberry, plum, and a hint of mocha, accompanied by the smoky, spicy note typical of Pinotage, reminiscent of roasted coffee beans. Dense on the palate, with ripe, well-integrated tannins and a long, slightly spicy finish.

Best served at 16-18 °C, with grilled lamb, game dishes, or strong hard cheese. Also a wine to discover slowly on its own during a convivial evening.
