Jung & Knobloch Albiger Hundkopf Riesling Ice Wine

Ice wine is the rarest expression of German Riesling — and the Albiger Hundkopf from Jung & Knobloch shows why. The grapes were harvested at a minimum of -8 °C, the water in the berry was frozen, and the highly concentrated juice was pressed separately.

The Jung & Knobloch winery is located in Albig, in the Rheinhessen hill country south of Alzey. The Albiger Hundkopf vineyard provides the necessary minerality and acidity for Riesling, which in an ice wine counterbalances the extreme sweetness.

In the glass: blossom honey, herbal tea, citrus peel, and a hint of stone fruit. The juice is oily and dense, the sweetness highly concentrated—but thanks to the lively acidity, it's crystal clear and fresh without being heavy. The finish is long, with lingering fruit sweetness and a delicate herbal note.

Serving suggestion: Neat as a dessert, with blue cheese (Roquefort, Gorgonzola) or with apple strudel and vanilla sauce. Serving temperature 8–10 °C. Drinking window open until 2035+, the acidity ensures long aging.
