Jaboulet La Chapelle rouge Hermitage AOP

La Chapelle is the most famous wine from the Hermitage — and Paul Jaboulet Aîné has made it the reference of the northern Rhône over decades. What awaits in the glass: a Syrah of classic stature that rewards patience.

The winery from Tain-l'Hermitage has been vinifying on the granite hill of the Hermitage since 1834. The La Chapelle site is located on the steepest plots with deep granite weathered soils — the basis for the dense minerality that distinguishes this wine from simpler Rhône wines. Since the takeover by the Frey family in 2006, the quality has been consistently developed further.

In the glass, a deep ruby red with violet reflections. On the nose, blackberry jam, violets, and black olive, plus graphite and a hint of smoked meat — typical for great Hermitage Syrah. On the palate, dense but silky tannins, ripe dark fruit, a spicy pepper line, and a long, mineral-smoky finish with good acidity structure.

Potential until 2035+. Serving temperature 17–18 °C. Pairs with braised lamb shoulder, wild boar ragout, or ripe Époisses.
