Hermitage La Chapelle

The Hermitage La Chapelle by Paul Jaboulet Aîné is one of the great names of the Rhône Valley – a Syrah that combines the power of the granite soils on the Hermitage hill with a fine structure.

Paul Jaboulet Aîné has been cultivating vineyards in the northern Rhône since 1834. The chapel that gives the wine its name overlooks the steep terraces of Hermitage – one of France's most prestigious vineyards. Syrah grown on granite and loess soils, which translates the climatic extremes of the continental climate into depth and longevity.

In the glass, it displays a deep ruby red color with violet reflections. The nose offers aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, and cassis, underpinned by sweet spices such as black pepper and cardamom, as well as a hint of cedar from barrel aging. On the palate, it is dense and full-bodied, with silky tannins and a length that lingers for minutes after swallowing.

Serving suggestion: Decant now (at least 1 hour) or store until 2035+. Serving temperature 17–18 °C. Pairs well with braised lamb shoulder with herbs de Provence, venison ragout, or mature Époisses.
