Grissini stirati without lard

Grissini stirati – hand-stretched breadsticks from Piedmont, where these thin, crispy sticks have been a staple at the table since the 17th century. Mario Fongo produces them in the Piedmontese tradition: without lard, but with a clear, straightforward taste.

The result is a light, splintery-crispy pastry with a fine salty note and the typical bite of hand-stretched grissini – evenly thin, with a slightly irregular surface that shows that this is handmade. Suitable for vegans and vegetarians.

Classic with raw ham, mortadella, or aged Pecorino – or simply with wine. As an accompaniment, a dry Piedmontese white wine like Gavi, a light Barbera, or a Franciacorta as an aperitif works well.
