Grattamacco Bolgheri Rosso DOC

The Grattamacco Bolgheri Rosso DOC is dominated by a scent of bright dark red fruits combined with plums, chocolate, and tobacco. On the palate, Grattamacco Bolgheri Rosso DOC presents rich, concentrated fruit aromas that merge with aromas of dark fruits and cloves. Good tannins, but nevertheless remarkable, well-developed fine-grained tannins. The entry-level wines from Grattamacco impressively represent the location of this winery. The advantage of this wine is that you can drink it young, while with premium wines it is worth waiting a few more years before opening and enjoying them.

The wine matures for 10 months in barrique.

The Winery

Grattamacco

Grattamacco was different from the beginning. In 1977, when hardly anyone believed in Bolgheri, the founders planted their first vines here. The second winery in the region. The first to vinify a Bolgheri Rosso. Pioneers who made Vermentino great before anyone knew it.

Today, the estate is located on a wooded hill between Castagneto Carducci and Bolgheri, with a view of the coast. Sea breezes cool, white clay soil stores minerality. The reason? A dried-up salt lake from ancient times – and you can taste that.

In the cellar: as little as possible. Everything by hand, hardly any technology. Sangiovese, Vermentino, Cabernet, Merlot – every grape gets the time it needs. Wine that does not deny its land.
