Glen Moray Single Malt Peated Whiskey

A peaty Speyside single malt that proves smoke and fruitiness are not mutually exclusive. Glen Moray Peated combines the light, approachable style of the Elgin distillery with a well-balanced peatiness.

Glen Moray is one of the oldest distilleries in Speyside—founded in 1897 in Elgin, now part of the La Martiniquaise group. Known for its fruity, approachable malts, the distillery uses barley malt with a higher peat smoke content for its peated whisky, matured in American ex-bourbon casks. The result is a Speyside character with a smoky component, not the other way around.

The nose offers initial aromas of sweet vanilla and ripe pear, followed by a subtle hint of peat smoke in the background. On the palate, it reveals citrus zest, light honey, and a slightly smoky spice—never harsh, never overpowering. The finish is medium-long, with a mild ash note and a final touch of dried fruit.

Neat at room temperature or with a small ice cube, which opens up the peat notes a bit. For those who want to experience smoky whisky without venturing into the intensity of Islay, this is a good starting point. Also enjoyable in a classic Scotch Sour with fresh lemon juice.
