Escarpment Chardonnay

New Zealand and Chardonnay — that's no longer just a footnote. Escarpment, based in Martinborough on the southern Wairarapa coast of the North Island, demonstrates with this wine what the region is capable of: a cool continental climate that delivers both fruit clarity and acid structure, giving Chardonnay a depth more commonly associated with Burgundy.

In the glass, aromas of yellow peach, mirabelle plum, and a hint of roasted hazelnut unfold—ripe, yet never heavy. Mineral notes permeate the aromatics, lending a vibrant freshness that makes the wine feel light and airy despite its richness. On the palate, a creamy, silky texture; the acidity is softly integrated, not sharp, but a calm framework that gives the wine length. The finish is warm and lingering, with a nutty aftertaste.

Martinborough is known for its well-drained soils and dramatic temperature variations between day and night—this Chardonnay perfectly reflects that: warmth and freshness in the same sip. Best served at 12–14°C , with chicken in cream sauce, pan-fried cod with caper butter, or a mature Brie de Meaux.
