Encosta da Vinha Dao Tinto

From the Dão , Portugal's cool high-altitude wine region at around 400–500 meters above sea level, comes this red wine from Boas Quintas — formerly marketed under the label Agenda Red , relaunched as Encosta da Vinha since the 2022 vintage.

The Dão is one of the most distinctive red wine regions on the Iberian Peninsula: granite soils dominate the high plateau, but the grapes for this wine grow on more clayey plots, which impart an earthy richness and a bit more texture than the typically lean Dão red wines. This results in a character that is both fresh and substantial.

In the glass, a red-fruited profile unfolds: raspberry, cherry, and strawberry take center stage, underpinned by a subtle minerality reminiscent of damp slate. The tannins are finely structured, slightly herbal—typical of the Dão's indigenous grape varieties like Touriga Nacional or Jaen—and blend seamlessly into the overall impression. The finish is short to medium-long, fresh, and dominated by red fruit.

An everyday wine without any fuss: serve at 16–17 °C , best enjoyed within the next one to two years. Pairs well with grilled chicken marinated in paprika, a hearty lentil stew, chouriço, or a young semi-hard cheese. It also makes a great, uncomplicated evening wine on its own.

Boas Quintas

Boas Quintas – founded in 1991 by Nuno Cancela de Abreu, who drew on his family's winemaking traditions and brought all his knowledge to the Dão region. His goal: high-quality wines with a distinctive character. Over the years, the company grew – without losing its family atmosphere. This led to the creation of Quinta da Fonte do Ouro, Quinta da Giesta in the Dão region, and Herdade de Gâmbia on the Setúbal Peninsula. The philosophy: diversity instead of uniformity. Each wine should retain its own unique nature and character. Awarded "Company of the Year 2016" (Revista de Vinhos). Portuguese wine culture as it should be.
