Domaine des Perdrix Echezeaux Grand Cru Devillard

Échézeaux is one of the quiet greats of the Côte de Nuits—not a name that resonates as loudly as Romanée-Conti, but a Grand Cru that has captivated connoisseurs for decades. Domaine des Perdrix, now part of the Devillard family from Mercurey, cultivates a plot here on the plateau above Vosne-Romanée, where the limestone-clay soil lends the Pinot Noir a unique, earthy depth.

In the glass, it displays a deep garnet red with violet reflections. The nose offers black cherry, blackberry, and fresh herbs, underpinned by mineral notes and a hint of oak spice from barrel aging. On the palate, it is dense but not heavy—supple tannins, a lively acidity, and a long, elegant finish with hints of forest floor and dark fruit. Its aging potential is considerable: drinking window 2025–2038 .

Best served at 16–18 °C , ideally decanted an hour beforehand. Pairs well with game birds, venison with wild mushrooms, or aged Époisses. A wine for special evenings—or for the cellar, if you have the patience.

Domaine des Perdrix

Domaine des Perdrix, located in Premeaux-Prissey near Nuits-Saint-Georges in the heart of Burgundy, is a renowned winery known for its exceptional Pinot Noir wines. Owned by the Devillard family since 1996, the estate also boasts other prestigious properties such as Château de Chamirey and Domaine de la Ferté. Domaine des Perdrix comprises 12 hectares of prime vineyards. The most celebrated is the almost entirely estate-owned Premier Cru "Aux Perdrix," distinguished by its complex and profound aromas. Domaine des Perdrix wines are an expression of the region's unique terroir. From meticulous hand-harvesting and gentle destemming to extended aging in oak barrels, every step is executed with the utmost precision to produce wines of outstanding quality. The wines typically mature for 18 months in oak barrels, with the proportion of new oak varying depending on the wine: 30% for village wines, 60% for Premier Crus and up to 90% for Grand Crus.
