Cuvee Umami Gold Capsule

The Cuvée Umami Goldkapsel from Ellermann-Spiegel is not a light-footed everyday wine — it comes with weight, depth, and the ambition to be on the table when there is something to say.

The Ellermann-Spiegel winery is located in Birkweiler in the Southern Palatinate, one of the warmest and sunniest wine regions in Germany. The family manages their vineyards with a focus on ripe, full-bodied red wines — the Goldkapsel marks the top of the range and stands for selective harvesting, careful vinification, and aging in wooden barrels.

In the glass, it shows a dense ruby red. The nose opens with dark berries — blackberry, black cherry — complemented by notes of cedar wood, tobacco, and a hint of cocoa powder. On the palate, the wine carries a full-bodied structure with ripe, well-integrated tannins. The finish is long, spicy, and characterized by a pleasant warmth.

Serve it at 16–18 °C — ideally after a short decanting time of 30 minutes. Suitable companions are braised lamb shoulder, beef fillet with truffle sauce, or a strong hard cheese like Manchego. Those who drink it on its own will find a wine that holds attention even without food.
