Viognier Gold Capsule

A Viognier from the Pfalz that shows what this grape variety, otherwise native to the Rhône, can achieve in the German climate: aromatically dense, vinified dry, and with a structure that goes far beyond pleasing fruit.

The Ellermann-Spiegel winery is located in Birkweiler in the southern part of the Pfalz — a region known for its warmth, its sandstone and limestone soils, and its variety of grape types. The fact that Ellermann-Spiegel has its own line with the Goldkapsel indicates selection: grapes from particularly good sites or harvests that are vinified separately.

Viognier naturally brings a lush aroma profile: apricot, white peach, orange blossom, and a slightly oily-creamy mouthfeel. The dry vinification keeps the richness in balance — the wine does not feel heavy, but rather full-bodied with a fresh line on the finish.

Best served at 14–16 °C. Pairs well with pan-fried chicken breast with saffron sauce, hearty fish such as monkfish or red mullet, goat cheese, or a mild curry with coconut milk.

The Winery

Ellermann-Spiegel

Ellermann-Spiegel is a winery from the Palatinate that stands for wines with character and a genuine regional connection. Here, craftsmanship is combined with a deep understanding of the landscape – the result is wines that never seem forced or over-stylized, but simply belong to the place where they are created.

The winery's wines impress with professional work in the vineyard, selective harvesting, and a fair price structure. Between the Palatinate Forest and the Rhine Plain, where the sun shines particularly generously and mild air currents from the plain meet cooler influences from the forest, wines are created with a tense balance between ripeness and freshness. The soils here are diverse – from sandy to loamy-calcareous locations – and give the vines exactly that minerality that makes Palatinate wines so unmistakable.

Whether a powerful Riesling, velvety Pinot Noir, or an uncomplicated everyday wine for the evening – at Ellermann-Spiegel you will find wines that transport the sun-drenched character of this landscape into every bottle. They stand for authenticity instead of label shine and for a price-pleasure ratio that fits exactly what Vinoscout wants to offer its customers.
