Château Phélan Ségur Saint Estèphe

Color: Deep garnet to purplish-red with youthful violet highlights. Aroma: Distinctive, leathery, and slightly smoky bouquet with intense aromas of blossoms and juicy, ripe red and black fruits (raspberries, blueberries, blackcurrants, cherries, etc.). Taste: Powerful, fleshy, and supple, with excellent structure and great richness on the palate. The tannins are elegant, well-structured, and smooth. The fruit is vibrant, ripe, and juicy. The wine is enormously complex, round, and balanced—very seductive with impressive length. Wine Spectator 93 points for the 2018 vintage.

Château Phélan Ségur

At Château Phélan Ségur, the grapes are selectively hand-harvested in the vineyard into small crates and then rigorously sorted again in the winery to ensure that only perfectly healthy and optimally ripened grapes enter the fermenters. After approximately eight to ten days of temperature-controlled fermentation (25 to 30 °C) in stainless steel tanks, the wines remain on the skins for another ten to twenty days to extract intense color pigments, aromas, and tannins. They are then carefully racked, the crushed grapes are pressed in pneumatic presses, the free-run and press wines are blended, and finally, the wine is aged for 14 to 18 months in French oak barriques (approximately 50% new wood).
