Chateau Gruaud-Larose 2ème Cru Classé 0.75L

Gruaud-Larose is one of the great names of the Médoc — a Second Growth from Saint-Julien that has been known for centuries for structured, age-worthy red wines. Those who choose this Château get Bordeaux in its classic form: serious, precise, with the unmistakable character of the appellation.

Saint-Julien lies between Margaux and Pauillac and is considered the most consistent appellation of the Médoc. The soils of deep gravel over clay give the wines their typical structure and freshness. Gruaud-Larose manages one of the largest single vineyards of the appellation — around 82 hectares — and has belonged to the Merlaut family since 1997. The cuvée is based on Cabernet Franc as the main grape variety, which gives the wine a special aromatic finesse.

In the glass, dark blackberry, cassis, and a hint of dried herbs appear — thyme, bay leaf. The palate is firmly structured, with velvety tannin and a lively acidity line that carries the long finish. Typical for Saint-Julien: neither the power of Pauillac nor the lightness of Margaux, but a balanced middle ground.

Good with leg of lamb with rosemary, beef fillet, or aged Comté. Serving temperature: 16–18 °C. Decant two hours before serving to open up the tannin.
