Château de Mercuès 6666 AOP Cahors 0.75L

The 6666 from Château de Mercuès represents what Cahors can do when Malbec grows on old terraces above the Lot valley: depth, structure and a fruit that doesn't need volume.

Château de Mercuès literally towers over Cahors — the medieval castle perched on the limestone cliffs of the Lot Valley is one of the region's most renowned estates. The designation 6666 refers to the estate's founding history and today represents the house's ambitious line: Malbec, which embodies the characteristic minerality of the Causses soils without being masked by oak.

In the glass, the wine displays a deep purple color. The nose offers blackberry, black plum, and a hint of violet, underpinned by graphite and a subtle touch of clove. On the palate, dense yet silky tannins—unusually approachable for a Cahors Malbec, without sacrificing any seriousness. The finish is long, with a subtle spiciness and lingering dark fruit.

Ready to drink now, with potential until 2030. Serving temperature 16–18 °C. Pairs well with braised lamb, entrecôte with herb butter, or a robust Tomme from southwest France.
